After a fire, it is natural for a person to want to "do something." While timely action can be a great help, it is also true that improper or delayed action can make restoration more difficult and even cause further damage. Following these tips can be very beneficial after your home has been damaged by fire:
To minimize damage - Do:
- Open windows for ventilation
- Limit walking on affected carpeting

- Empty refrigerator and freezer completely if electricity is off
- Remove pets (especially birds)
- Secure the property against theft and weather
To avoid further damage - Dont:

- Sit on upholstered furniture
- Attempt to clean upholstered furniture, as it can be ruined by improper cleaning
- Use exposed food items, or canned goods which have been subjected to excessive heat
- Use any electrical appliances until cleaned and checked
